FOP Driscoll Pipe Band

THE STEPHEN P. DRISCOLL MEMORIAL PIPE BAND

The Stephen P. Driscoll Memorial Pipe band was founded  in November, 2007 and is named in honor of New York City Emergency Police Officer, Stephen P. Driscoll, who was killed in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001.

Our mission is to promote the appreciation of bagpipe and drum music by providing class instruction, presenting innovative musical events, pursuing group competition, encouraging individual competition, and fostering tradition.

To support our mission, we:

  • Foster a supportive and constructive learning environment
  • Provide mentoring for beginning pipers and drummers
  • Strive to improve the craft though practice, performance, and competition
  • Encourage education through participation in piping and drumming seminars
  • Provide opportunities in leadership and responsibility
  • Communicate the legacy of Scottish and Irish music through our public performances
  • Promote fellowship outside the band events
  • Create good will within the community
  • Engage in fund raisers to support the necessity of uniforms, equipment, and instruments
  • Compete at Highland games in group and solo competition
  • Attract new members and sponsors
  • Carry-on and promote this culture by performing as a bagpipe and drum band with the greatest degree of excellence attainable and teaching these arts on the highest possible level

As the primary pipe band for the Stephen P. Driscoll Memorial  Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police we march in parades in the Hudson Valley,  Western Connecticut and throughout the Northeast.  We have performed at the U.S. Military Tattoo at West Point, New York and opened for the New York based band Shillelagh Law several times.  In 2008 & 2009, we had the privilege of playing with the Chieftains in Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2010, we played for the Chieftains at the University of Massachusetts and Town Hall in New York City.

We proudly wear the New York City Tartan which was designed by Lochcarron of Scotland and presented to New York City in April, 2002. The colors of the tartan represent New York City with gray for the streets and buildings of the City, green for Central Park and blue for the Hudson and East rivers which surround Manhattan.   The two black lines which are designed in a cross offer a sign of condolence in memory of those who died in the Twin Towers tragedy.

We encourage anyone to join us, law enforcement officers active and retired and anyone else who are willing to work hard enough to achieve a standard of musicianship acceptable to the band.  If you have no skills, but have the desire and willingness to make a commitment to learn, we can provide excellent instruction. We practice weekly on Wednesday evenings at the FOP Hall, Lawlor Building, 2 Route 164, located at the  intersection of Routes 311 and 164, Patterson, New York, 12601. Visitors are always welcome.
